Dipped Pretzels
White chocolate wafers (used for candy making)
Miniature pretzels
Heat candy wafers only till melted. Drop in tiny pretzels, Coat with white chocolate. Let excess coating drop off. Let dry on wax paper. Do only a few at a time. Larger pretzels may also be used.
Delicious Doughnuts
1 cup boiling water
¾ cup shortening
¾ cup white sugar
Combine these three ingredients.
Add:
1 cup cold water
2 eggs
2 pkgs. dry yeast dissolved in ½ cup warm water with 1 T. sugar
1 tsp. salt
Add 7 to 8½ cups flour to the above mixture in two additions. Mix well. The dough will be sticky to the touch, so do not add more than 8½ cups. Knead till smooth on a floured surface.
Let dough rise 1 to 2 hours until double. Roll out about ½ “ thick and cut with a donut cutter. Let rise ½ hour. *Fry and glaze while hot.
Glaze: 2 lb. Bag powdered sugar
2/3 cup boiling water
2 tsps. vanilla
(Can be thinned with more hot water as it cools and thickens.)
These donuts are also very good dipped in powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar, plain sugar, or left plain. They can be frosted when cool. This recipe makes 6 dozen donuts and donut holes. It can be successfully halved by halving the ingredients.
*Best when fried in corn oil!
